Each volume 9 1/2" x 12", bound in dark brown buckram with 3/4 leather. marbled endpapers. Bright gold lettering on front of each, gold lettering on spines, leather is rubbed and deteriorating on spines and corners. Interiors contain full page b&w photogravures, wood-engravings and typogravures, each with a tissue protector which is printed with the subject of the illustration. Volume 1 has a 3" loss of leather on the spine and a 1" x 1 1/2" chip missing from the back. Volume 4 has a loosening front hinge. All interiors crisp and unmarked.
