Unknown 19th Century Valentine
Card Very Good -
Approximately 6 1/4" x 4 1/2" when folded. This card is die-cut and embossed with a paper lace frame on the front. There are three small pictures glued on top of the paper lace. The lace is missing two corners and another small piece - about 20% loss. Inside there is an illustration and a two stanza poem. There are four points where the paper connects, the front to the back on the fold. One of these is worn through. Unmarked..

Card Very Good++
Approximately 3 1/2' x 5 1/4" when folded. This card is die-cut and embossed with a paper lace frame around the face of a girl. Inside there is an illustration and a poem. I came across it tucked inside an old family bible. Unmarked.

Leavitt & Allen 125. Hard Cover Very Good No Jacket Issued Jacket
Small (2 1/2" x 4") volume, bound in blue with embossed design on front and back, Spine is gilt, which is worn in the middle, there is a 2' split in the cloth where the spine folds. Corner are sharp. Two books of 16 pages each bound together. Unmarked, pages lightly tanned. Hand-colored illustrations throughout, 11 in the first part, 9 in the second part. Games in the first part include leap frog, stilts, plank and others. The stories in the second part are all about military figues and include General Winfield Scott and General Mercer. No date, circa 1850.

4 tiny story books in original box. Each book 2 1/4" x 2 3/4", with 4 three-color illustrations in each. Box has an illustration on the front with this verse ' Here are little story books that I am sending you, I hope you'll like the stories and colored pictures, too!'. Box has darkened with age and is worn at edges. Books are staple bound, titles are "East of the Sun and West of the Moon", "Pied Piper", "Gorgon's Head" and " Ali Baba", all in VG+ condition save for "Ali Baba" which has a tiny bite out of the edge (does not effect text or illustrations).

Binding is a mustard color cloth with gold stamping and black & red decoration on front and back covers. Gilt top edge, other edges rough cut. Spine is darkened with some wear at top and bottom. The story of Empress Elizabeth wife of Franz-Joseph.

352 pages, b&w illustrations within. There are several inscriptions on the blank endpapers of the book, front and back. The back blank endpaper also contains a sticker advertising Dr. Kilmer's Swamp Root (cures all urinary disorders). The center signature has pulled away from the sewn binding at the bottom. It is still holding firmly and other than this the binding is in very good condition. Brown boards with black lettering and decoration. Burgundy spine. Corners and spine ends heavily worn.

Includes, "Mischief" 15 pages,"George Ellis's first Day at School" 16 pages, "Sarah Seymour's Punishment or the Dangers of Trifling With the Truth" 15 pages, "Little Things Not to be Despised" 8 pages, "The Hard Lesson" 8 pages. Each tale has a b&w engraving proceeding it and 2 have a small picture at the end. Firmly bound, very occassional foxing, 2 former owner's names in pencil on blank endpapers, one dated 1879. Light wear at corners and spine ends.
