The 1st volume is a study of food and drink in America, 384 pages, indexed, heavily illustrated with photographs, full color art and line drawings. Photographs on endpapers, gift inscription on the half-title page. The 2nd volume ontains recipes, ilustrated with drawing throughout, b&w frontis, endpapers contain charts of equivalnets used in cooking. unmarked. Both volumes bound in deep teal cloth with gold lettering on the spines. Aside from the gift inscription they are like new. The slipcase, in a darker shade of teal with a full-color pastedown, has wear on the corners and a 1 3/4" split on one of the edges toward the open side.

This book is unmarked except for the former owner's name and address written neatly inside the front cover. The binding is firm. Sometime in the life of this book a mouse was attracted to the bottom front right corner, which has been nibbled about 1/4" in. Likewise the bottom of the spine has similar damage.

There is a browned spot on pages 438 and 439 due to a newspaper clipping from the Feb. 2, 1951 issue of the Cleveland News, which is tucked in. The clipping contains recipes.
