A quite handsome and fascinating set, detailing the lives of women, some famous, some not-so-famous, throughout the ages in various countries. Color illustrations throughout, each protected by page explaining the source of the picture. This set is #735 of a deluxe limited printing of 1000. Volume #1 has the original subscribers name printed, Alice Oberlander. Because of the wonderful condition, I believe this set remained in the same family until this year. No tears, no foxing, no marks, binding is tight and intact. Dark brown quarter-leather at spine and leather corners. Extremities show only normal signs of wear. Spines have raised bands, clear & bright gold lettering, and a peacock decoration. The front of each volume has the original owner's monogram embossed in gold on the leather near the top. Top edge is gilt. Titles are, Greek Women, Women of the Romance Countries, Women of Medieval France, Women of England, Early Christian Women, Roman Women, Women of the Teutonic Nations, Women of Modern France, Oriental Women, Women of America. Each volume was written by a different person.
